Ive found the service much easier to use and for that ease of use you pay a premiumnever had issues using jaxx wallet to shapeshift
did a btc/xrp transaction on their website interface once, and transaction failed, but support replied to the issue quickly, and advised why the issue happened.

they kept my bitcoin when I tried to exchange to Ethereum, contacted them, they said they would repay me my Bitcoin. I never got it back I lost 0.05 in Bitcoin. there seems to be lost of other people this has happened to

Stay away until their process becomes more detailed and transparent. I tried to convert $200 worth of BTC into ETH and lost $40 when the exchange failed. This is a ridiculous fee to charge and I am very insulted that a service claiming to be convenient is actually a scam ring. Please, please stay away from ShapeShift, do not use their service, you will be charged a hefty fee for their convenience that is not worth it.

I've used Shapeshift programmatically for the last few months (June 2017 through end of August 2017) and transacted thousands of shifts using the exact same addresses and source code to ensure consistency on my end. The intent of my real-world testing across various coins (BTC, ETH, LTC, DGB, XRP, DASH, SC, and others) was to see if the Shapeshift platform would be reliable enough to use in a public venue requiring 99.9999% uptime with efficiency and quality (Six Sigma) standards. The result, complete inconsistency and lack-of-scalability on Shapeshift's part. Any time their website shows more than 15k transactions a day, watch out! I could post a list of over 100 transactions that have been "held" by shapeshift and required tickets, support emails, and numerous days (and sometimes weeks) to get our funds back. It's a disaster waiting to happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see the company sporadically close-up-shop and disappear on a day when their system was so overwhelmed that everyone's money just got locked-up and put Shapeshift systems and capability to support them into an irrecoverable state.
On the positive side, I have never had an issue with them returning the funds (eventually) using the support ticket system - as long as you keep good logs of your own (they'll never proactively identify that they messed-up and voluntarily send you the funds without you submitting a ticket).
Their is a HUGE opportunity here for a competitor (not Changelly) that supports the concept of Precise Transactions and a truly enterprise offering in this space.
Doing a single transaction or two? Use them! Looking to programmatically use them with two or more transactions an hour? Good luck! You'll lose money for sure.

My personal experience with ShapeShift.io:
CASE 1:
I sold 1 ETH for DASH, their software waited for quite a while, then completed all 3 steps, but wait, there was no final exchange rate: 1 ETH = DASH, what did I get... nothing in my wallet
I wrote back asking for 1 ETH refund, eventually I got 0.995 ETH back.
where is the 0.005 ETH I asked, they say ... miner fees, but wait, ETH miner fees are maximum 0.003, I check the refund transaction, the fee for my returned ETH was only 0.00063 Ether.. Do the math yourselves.
CASE 2:
I sell 1 ETH for DGB, again after a loong wait, I get a complete transaction, so far so good, some time later I get DGB in the wallet... let's check the transaction details:
they receive 24987.64659281 DGB to DAszkdB9v3snLquqChvdyeroP8VWLHnxTw
they send me 23345.97715716 DGB (U) to D6NjhTkWaxQtdScSL7QNdTxcwHqKstp1h3
they also send 1641.66717565 DGB (S) to DKtbEZYJDQo93QM5fpcJKfnqMpUV9dxWWF
and the fee is: FEE: 0.00226 DGB
where 1641 DGB has gone... not in my wallet, that's 6.5 % of what my 1 ETH bought.
So there you have it folks, ShapeShift.io are THIEVES and they DO NOT deserve our pennies, because they are good at shifting, but not to where the pennies belong.
I had to give them 1 star, because this site does not allow ZERO stars... and that's what parasites deserve anyway.

ShapeShift "lost" my money. My funds uploaded to their temporary account fine....But their app died and "lost" the transaction before it was exchanged and deposited in my wallet. There is no record of the transaction on the app or shapeshift site. I only have the transaction record of payment via my wallet to the shapeshift temporary account. I filed my service request 3 days ago. I was sent their standard fake email autoresponse on day 2 which says "we found your funds" and "intermittent error" and "we will process the return". I have received no response from any human, or info which actually pertains to my case. I was told that it could take up to 72hrs...but that time has passed.
Meanwhile...the BTC I started with has devalued 10% and the XMR I should have received would have been worth 200%. But that's all irrelevant because ShapeShift "lost" 100% of it and has returned 0% and provided 0% of the promised service in their already rediculous 72hr time frame.

I'd give them zero stars if I could. Shape-Shitted BTC from Jaxx wallet to Eth then later Eth back to BTC.That was the last I saw of my coin. Shape-shift claimed it was returned because of an error.
I never received it.
Lost $1000. Both Jaxx support and Shape-Shit support are useless. 2 months of chasing them and all they could offer as one liners and days to get back to me. One blamed the other and around and around I went.
Very poor service. Don't go near them, you will lose your funds. I'm not the only one.

Shapeshift is a ripoff. The rates are too bad comparing to any other exchange. most exchanges charge max 0.25% but Shapeshift is at least 1% and up to 10%! They should be rejected by people.

Shapeshift 1.37 ETHER to EOS. Coins never appears at destination addresses nor returned to deposit address. Request for assistance but never got a reply. To read so many negative reviews here is justified. Very disappointed.

Wanted to change ETC (22$ worth) to BTC. I got BTC worth 16.4$, so 25% of the value is gone. In transaction history there are useless additional transactions, money is not sent directly, it's bullshit. Worst service ever.

There is a hidden double charge, Mining fee AND conversion rate.The fees are small but the conversion rate is the worst, conversion rate can be off by 10+% of actual value of the coins in their favor.
You will lose lots using this easy to trade service, I traded one ether into one Zcash while the values were equal, trade went fine and was equal minus the mining fee, I got lucky, however... while ether lost 15% of its value while Zcash remained the same, the exchange rate barely budged .5%, it even refused to load for 2 min, blocking a trade back and once it did reload it left the amount RED and refused the trade while being a valid entry and fully confirmed ballance, but if I had traded back (due to the exchange rate) I would have lost 16+% for conversion and mining fee when I should have been able to come out +10-14% easy.
Also, they don't make it easy to calculate the value coming out of the trade.

My BTC to ETH conversion jammed up in the Shapeshit exchange on the 15th June and was stuck for 8 days! It was refunded in ETH of course which had fallen in value. I lost over US$300. Why did they have so few staff fixing this problem. Pure hubris from this bunch. I have now learned how to trade on a real exchange.
