Update

In business since end of 2007, VirWox is today the the leading independent exchange for trading virtual currencies, both in terms number of users (about 100,000), and trading volume (2012: 29 million Euro / 38 million US$).

Currencies traded are Linden Dollars (the virtual currency used in Second Life), Avination's C$, and the Open Metaverse Currency (OMC). In April 2011, RED PAY LINE started accepting Bitcoin and enabled to trade bitcoins for Linden Dollars (both ways), which are in turn convertible to EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, and the other virtual currencies traded on VirWoX.

Other payment methods (deposit and withdrawal) include PayPal, Credit/Debit Cards via Skrill/Moneybookers, NETELLER, paysafecard, Ukash, SOFORTbanking, and bank transfers.

VirWox is run by the company Virtual World Services GmbH, which is located in Austria. The service is available in five languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Italian).

starstarstarstarstar Virwox is a criminal enterprise. I'm trying to get PayPal to refund the money that these thieves looted from my bank account, but don't have much hope. Apparently PayPal is the only online banking company stupid enough to deal with these crooks.

starstarstarstarstar Have been with VirWox for almost 4 years now.
It was a nice surprice when they introduced bitcoins and I was able to use them to transfer some old coins I had and cash in 500 euros for coins I've been given as introduction way back.
It is a shame LindenLab changed its policy otherwise I'd put the rest of my Lindens on my account with VirWox.

starstarstarstarstar Yes, the computer geek thieves of the world are a strange breed. Most have probably never done as much physical labor as sweep a floor, or wash their own dishes, with a DISHWASHER even! Cooking, cleaning, isn't that what those "other" people are for? Theirs is a world of "FANTASY!", where Linden dollars are REAL currency, AND $5 caramel lattes too, of course! Their lives are oh so "fabulous", whether gay or straight, because THEY are the true chosen ones! Smart and inventive, but duller than a butter knife, they rule their own virtual world with a (limp) iron fist. How BRAVE they truly are. No really, whether they know it or not. For if ever imprisoned for any of these crimes, YIKES!!!! These "men" in, say, oh, Folsom Prison!!! Multi million dollar bitcoin thief "Trey Webmaster" has to share a cell with "Fagkiller Jones", the notorious murderer of 12 gay men in the Castro District in San Francisco. "Darth King Diamond", Sith Lord Of The Apocalypse, owner of Trekcoin Trader (seller of the latest electronic currency based on a classic tv show), is busted for fraud. Pissing himself in the squad car, "DKD" makes it as far as LA County Jail, but never checks out. He's gang raped and killed by "The Sons Of Asgard".."Ya don't tarnish the name of The King, man! Metal up your ass, literally, ha ha!" states chapter Vice President Reginald "Strychnine" Stanford. (New series on FOX). OK, so I got a BIT off track there, but I at least got the point across. I'm pretty sure The Dungeonmasters is NOT one of the bigger prison gangs. Their weapon of choice, a sockfull of 12 sided dice, it seems is a pretty shitty one.

starstarstarstarstar Yes there are fees, but after first two day buffer period for that transaction, it's almost immediate. People need to stop complaining, it costs a premium because no other effing site does PayPal and credit cards. So be happy it's a simple process, transaction fees or not. You want a real scam? Go to coinbase. Four day buffer period, and many last minute cancelled orders due to "high risk" (in the four day buffer period they DECIDE whether or not it is profitable enough) often taking some fee for the failure

starstarstarstarstar I have yet to receive my bitcoins and it's been three days (they ask that you allow them 48 hours). Since Virwox is the only site I know of that lets you convert cash/credit card/paypal into bitcoins, I put up with the fees. Because I don't know this site though (I should have looked up reviews first), I only tried to convert $20. Well, they have a site called skrillx or something that takes a good chunk out (I was left with $15 after the fees). Then, you have to convert the second life lindens into cash. I believe there is a fee with that as well. THIS IS ALL FINE AND DANDY, considering they're the only service available for what I needed to do (convert $ to btc), but I have NOT received any bitcoins! Don't use this website. I've heard there's something you may be able to do to get your money back though, I think it's called a "chargeback". I'm going to look into it myself...

starstarstarstarstar Virwox is pretty much the only way that you can get from PayPal to bitcoins but it is such a sketchy process that is riddled with fees and confusing steps that I wouldn't trust it. The fees themselves are huge and then you have to deposit money to buy Second Life money and then transfer that to get BTC each step along the way costing you more $

I wouldn't recommend this unless it was your only option.

starstarstarstarstar If you're looking to purchase Bitcoins VirWoX is the wrong place to go. The first problem is that in order to get bitcoins you first have to make a deposit in your regular currency using a middle man company called Skrill (This will charge you a high fee), after you've made your deposit you have to exchange it into SLL Second Life Linden Dollars (at whatever exchange rate they decide), after you got your overpriced SLL then and only then you can Exchange it into Bitcoins (You lose money also on this transaction too). In my case I made a deposit of US$100.00, Skrill charged me US$4.00 to transfer the money to VirWox, I had spent US$104.00 already, after exchanging this into SLL and then into Bitcoins, I ended up with an amount of 0.14700000 - using other more reputable and efficient services I would have been able to purchase 0.16000000 for only US$101.05 saving me all the hassle and money. That's the hard lesson I learn by falling for VirWox advertising. I hope you're not the next victim.
